CRES

The CRES (Certified Real Estate Specialist) designation is REIC's newest designation. CRES members demonstrate a commitment to Real Estate as a professional career, and a commitment to continuing education. All CRES members are licensed, have at least two years experience, and meet the educational requirements. CRES members, as with any REIC designated or accredited professional, are governed by the Institute's Code of Professional Conduct.

How to become a Certified Real Estate Specialist

  • Step One: Apply for CRES membership
  • Step Two Meet the education and experience requirements
  • Step Three: Be interviewed by your local REIC chapter


Step One: apply to become a Certified Real Estate Specialist

The basic CRES requirements are:

  • Be licensed and active in the practice of real estate
  • Have a minimum of two years of creditable experience
  • Be a high school graduate or equivalent
  • Be of legal age


Step Two: Education and Experience Requirements

To qualify for CRES Membership you must meet educational requirements in the areas of:

  • Ethics and Professional Standards
  • Real Estate Valuation
  • Real Estate Finance
  • Real Estate Law
  • Specialty Courses


Depending upon your level of licensing and your jurisdiction, you could be only one course away from Professional Certification.

To retain the CRES designation, members agree to:

  1. Stay current with annual national membership fees
  2. Maintain local REIC chapter membership
  3. Have a minimum of two years experience and be a licensed Real Estate practitioner
  4. Meet the CRES mandatory continuing education requirements


Step Three: The Chapter Interview

The chapter interview is a mandatory requirement. In most cases, your interview will be conducted at your place of business. A member of local chapter will meet with you to verify your experience and eligibility for the designation.

Following your interview and upon the chapter's written endorsement of your application, the Admissions Department will confirm, in writing, your candidacy or membership status.
