The Designation for Real Estate Management Professionals CPM® stands for
Certified Property Manager® . . . the designation awarded by the Real
Estate Institute of Canada and the Institute of Real Estate Management to
the top professionals in the real estate management industry. Real estate
owners and investors and those who live, work, and shop in their properties
all benefit from the training and professionalism of CPM® members.

Educating the Experts
The Real Estate Institute of Canada (REIC) and the Institute of Real Estate
Management (IREM) provide the advanced education that today's real estate
management professionals are looking for. Through REIC's and IREM's
extensive training, strict experience criteria and a recognized Code of
Professional Standards, thousands of real estate managers have advanced
their careers by earning the CPM® designation. CPM®, CERTIFIED PROPERTY
MANAGER®, and the CPM® key are federally registered marks of the Institute
of Real Estate Management.
How to become a CPM®
Step One: CPM® Candidacy
Before you can earn the CPM® designation you need to become a candidate.
All you have to do is:
Complete the application form; include all your
references, non-refundable processing fee, and mail to REIC National Office.
Please be sure to include copies of any documents (e.g. university
graduation, course records, transcripts) that will help to expedite your
application.
Your professional experience is calculated, your
references are contacted, and a chapter interview is conducted (usually at
your place of business).
The Admissions Department will confirm your candidacy
in writing. You must be a candidate for a minimum of one year, and you have
10 years to achieve your designation.
When you become a candidate, you must remain a candidate for a minimum of
one year and will have a maximum of ten years to meet the requirements for
CPM® membership.
As a candidate, you will be required to complete a series of courses that
will prepare you to thoroughly understand and meet investors' needs. CPM®
members are trained to analyze a property's physical and fiscal performance
and implement policies and procedures to enhance short-term and long-range
property value.
Step Two: CPM® Membership
To achieve the CPM® designation, candidates must:

an applicable professional designation or university degree, there are seven
courses which make up the educational component of the program. These are:
Other components include the Certification Exam, successful completion of
a traditional management plan on an actual property or Management Plan
Skills Assessment (MPSA),
and three years experience in managing real estate.
Courses are available in classroom and some are available by home
study. Once you are a candidate, the Education Department can suggest some
options available.
