What Is An ARM®?

ARM
® stands for Accredited Residential Manager® . . . the certification awarded by the Real Estate Institute of Canada and the Institute of Real Estate Management to specialists who manage residential properties. This includes rental apartment complexes, rental mobile homes, rental condominiums, rental single-family homes, and condominiums. ARM®-trained managers are in a position to improve the quality of life of people who live in residential properties while at the same time enhancing the value of the assets they oversee.

Experience
  • Every ARM® has a minimum level of experience managing a sizeable residential portfolio.


Skills

  • Every ARM® has full responsibility for a number of demanding property management functions.


Training

  • To become an ARM®, a property manager must successfully complete REIC 101: Successful Site Management, the course that deals specifically with the challenging operational problems that site managers face on a day-to-day basis.


Professionalism

  • Every ARM® commits and adheres to a Professional Code of Ethics that is rigorously enforced by REIC. It is this Code that truly sets the ARM® apart from every other residential manager.


Unending Education

  • Education for the ARM® participant does not stop with obtaining the award. It is continuous. Every ARM® meets REIC's mandatory continuing education requirement. Education opportunities are continuously offered by the Institute through local Chapter meetings and regional meetings.


How to become an ARM® Applicant

Before you can earn the ARM® service award, you need to become an applicant.

All you have to do is:

  • Complete the application form; include all your references, non-refundable processing fee, and mail to REIC National Office. Please be sure to include copies of any documents (e.g. university graduation, course records, transcripts) that will help to expedite your application.
  • Your professional experience is calculated, your references are contacted, and a chapter interview is conducted (usually at your place of business).
  • The Admissions Department will confirm your candidacy in writing.

  • Achieving the ARM® Service Award

    Once you are an ARM® applicant, you will be required to:

    First, RES201: Successful Site Management, which is available through your local chapter. The course lasts five days, and a proctored examination must be written on the sixth day. It is then sent to REIC National Office for grading, and final results in writing are sent to the student within 60 days. The course may also be taken by Home Study, and the materials and text will be delivered.  Students must register directly with REIC, and have four months (120 days) to review the work. A final exam (100 multiple choice questions, not open book) is also required and proctored.  The second course is REIC 2600: Ethics and Business Practice.  This is a three-day course with a final assignment.
